Newry continued their excellent form under Gerry Flynn with a third consecutive league win (four on the trot in all competitions) on Saturday. Our 2-1 win over Crusaders was significant as it was a first league win over a top half team this season. It was also sweet payback for two painful defeats at Seaview earlier in the season.

Cormac McArdle and James Willis continued their recent goalscoring form, both having recently returned from injury. Darren King did well to send in Niall Hudson who crossed for McArdle to finish on 31 minutes. The Hatchetmen equalised with a 64th minute penalty from Davy Larmour after Brian Kelly was adjudged to have handled. But for the 3rd league game in a row Newry fought for a late winner when Bo Willis cracked home a screamer from a seemingly impossible angle. Once more this was a team effort with everyone playing their part and the team spirit is evident with late winners sending us all home happy.

Next up for Newry is the Mid Ulster Cup Final against Annagh Utd on Monday 2nd April. The game will be played in Armagh, kick off 7.30pm. Can we make it five in a row and pick up our first piece of silverware in seven years?
